1. Planning Your Landscape Lighting
Where do you need outdoor lights?
Landscape lighting is one area that people tend to forget about until after a project is finished. Designing an effective landscape lighting system involves thoughtful planning and strategic layout. For wired lighting systems, we carefully craft a detailed plan that includes lighting placement and wiring routes. Our team expertly runs cables through conduit, drills through masonry, and seamlessly integrates the system into your hardscape, ensuring it’s both functional and aesthetically pleasing from the start.
What is the purpose of your outdoor lighting?
Outdoor landscaping lighting can serve multiple purposes. A well designed lighting plan not only illuminates paths, walkways, etc for easy navigation, but can create a beautiful outdoor ambiance that truly brings your outdoor space to life. People often forget that the evening is when we have the most available time to socialize, unwind and gather with friends and family. Additionally, lighting can provide an extra layer of security to your property allowing you to feel completely safe in your own space.

2. Landscape Lighting Types

Up Lights
Up Lights are typically used at the base of trees or walls. The light from up lights are narrow to enhance the beauty of an object like a tree.

Flood Lights
Floodlights have a wider spread of light and are used ornamentally, primarily to illuminate plants or bushes.

Path Lights
Path lights illuminate your path along walkways using low downward-facing light to provide elegant and safe landscapes.

Well Lights
Well lights are used in-ground and shine their light upward. Well lights are more discreet as they lie flat with the terrain surface.

Ledge Lights
Ledge lights are used under steps to illuminate where you walk and can also be used under coping and outdoor fireplaces as lighting accents.

Sconce Lights
Sconce lights are light fixtures typically located on walls and pillars and come in a wide variety of styles, shapes and colors.

3. Next Gen Lighting
Choosing the right kind of outdoor lighting
Depending on the type of transformer selected, your outdoor lighting system can range from simple to very high-tech. Simple transformers include on/off timers, while next-gen lighting systems use smart phone apps for calendar based programing and can sense nighttime automatically. The Luxor system comes with over 40 custom programable themes and 30,000 color lighting options for holidays or sporting events. From the convenience of your smart phone you can wirelessly control your lights, set lighting zones, and adjust the intensity of specific areas.
Once you’ve decided on your lighting system, this can determine the lighting fixtures you’ll use. For example only some lighting fixtures have the ability to change color, so if you are using the Luxor system, only specific light fixtures will have this feature.
Custom Holiday Lighting

At LMG, we use LED lights for their long lifespan and consistent color temperature. These low-voltage LEDs are also essential for preventing transformer overload, ensuring efficient and reliable performance.
Don’t waste your money on Solar Lights
Solar lights simply can’t match the durability and performance of high-quality brass or copper fixtures. For a more sustainable option, consider using wired traditional fixtures alongside solar panels for your entire home. Cheap solar lights tend to have short lifespans and ultimately contribute to landfill waste, making them less eco-friendly in the long run.
